Wing Man! I & Combatants Quest VIII
General Rules:
(This contest is meant to be fun, please remember
this while planning your design.
Safety is a requirement; there will be families with
children at the contest.)
Its that time again when we start
planning for combat of the crunches.
Every year we change our strategies to adjust to the
type of combat that we will participate in.
But the winner is always the last one in the air!
We will be flying at the Cajon Pass in
southern California, were we have test flown these birds in
up to 35 mph winds.
- There will be two awards
presented after the competition.
- The
Builder’s Corner Award will be awarded to the
building team who design and build the best scale team
models for this contest.
Points will be awarded based on the scoring
information below and peer voting.
- The
Wing Man! Award will be awarded to the team of two who
accumulates the least amount of damage points from the
flight portion of this contest.
Points will be awarded based on the scoring
information below.
- Lucky
Dog Award for lowest individual damage score. Points will be awarded based on the scoring information
below.
- Participants may help each
other build and fly their contest sailplanes
- All sailplanes must be
constructed as 1/12 scale WWII Fighter aircraft. WWII Fighter aircraft is defined as any fighter airplane
which was built and/or utilized during WWII and meets
the criteria listed below.
Kits may be used as long as they meet the 1/12
scale requirements. (Please
note Kit suppliers.)
- Plane specifications will
need to be provided to allow for scale confirmation and
authenticity of markings, etc.
- All planes must have a
wingspan between 29” and 46”.

Combatants Quest VIII
- There
will be one award
presented after the competition.

Ace’s Award will be awarded to the pilot who
accumulates the most flight points from the Hand
Launch and Dog Fight portions of this contest.
Points will be awarded based on the scoring
information below.
- All
profile sailplanes must be constructed as 1/18 scale
WWII Fighter aircraft.
WWII Fighter aircraft is defined as any fighter
airplane which was built and/or utilized during WWII and
meets the criteria listed below.
Kits may be used as long as they meet the 1/18
scale requirements. (Please
note Kit suppliers.)
- All
Planes will be provided. Builder will select last
from available planes for the contest.
- All
planes must have a wingspan between 20” and 36”. (please
note scale calculation spreadsheet)
- Flight
Scoring:
- Dog
Fight [if
no wind and or lift, draw straws for duels]
- 1000pts
Last sailplane in the air.
- All
launch for head to head combat.

- 1000pts
Single Elimination Duels.
- Draw
straws for placement on single elimination chart
- Pairs
go head to head (play chicken at 20 paces)

make contact
- Last
one in air after contact moves on.
